Vasilios Barkas spotted in Glasgow as Celtic transfer edges closer – Daily Record

Potential new Celtic goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas has been spotted in Glasgow ahead of his Hoops move.

The Greek international is set to complete a £5.5million transfer from AEK Athens this week.

And he’s been spotted in the city after touching down at Glasgow Airport on Tuesday night.

Barkas was earmarked as Neil Lennon ‘s ideal replacement for last season’s loan keeper Fraser Forster, who has opted to stay at parent club Southampton.

The deal consists of an initial £4.5million with another £1million to be paid to AEK in add-ons.

And with his arrival in Scotland it’s expected that he’ll be announced as Celtic ‘s new No.1 soon, subject to a successful medical.

The 26-year-old is set to sign a four-year deal with the Scottish champions and barring any late snags the Dutch-born shot stopper should be available for this Sunday’s opening game against Hamilton at Celtic Park.

Barkas previously played against the Hoops in a Champions League tie with AEK in 2018, in which the Greek side prevailed.
