Thiago finally lives Liverpool dream as world-class Ozan Kabak claim made – Liverpool Echo

Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Friday, March 12.

Thiago lives Liverpool dream as Reds given Fabinho benefits

The Liverpool midfield on Wednesday evening would have been the sort of one Thiago Alcantara would have dreamed about when he arrived at Anfield in September.

Fabinho‘s return to the centre of the pitch was much-needed for the Reds – who dominated in their 2-0 win over RB Leipzig.

The Brazilian – who has spent the majority of the season at centre-back due to a lack of options available to Jurgen Klopp – was a huge presence for the Premier League champions in Budapest.

So far in his Liverpool career, Thiago has felt the impact of the Reds’ defensive crisis with two of the squad’s best midfielders in Fabinho and Jordan Henderson being pushed back into defence.

Without a midfield enforcer, Thiago has been trying. to impose his own physicality in games and has been criticised for giving away too many fouls.

However, on Wednesday, it was finally an opportunity for the 29-year-old to blossom alongside the Brazilian powerhouse Fabinho. And that he did.

The Spain midfielder was one of the Reds’ best players in Hungary and was very unfortunate not to claim a sublime assist after a clever scissor kick put Mohamed Salah clean-through on goal.

Kabak tipped to be a success at Anfield

Ozan Kabak has been tipped to become a success at Liverpool by one of Klopp‘s former team-mates.

The 20-year-old centre-back has come into the Reds side at the most difficult time, with the reigning champions of England woefully out of form in the Premier League.

Liverpool have the option to sign Kabak on a permanent basis in the summer for £18million if he impresses during his loan spell from German club Schalke.

“Kabak is a good player,” said Guido Schafer, a former team-mate of Klopp’s at Mainz and a journalist currently covering RB Leipzig, on an Under The Radar podcast from Blood Red ahead of Liverpool facing the German side.

“I saw him a lot times in the Bundesliga.

“He is very powerful and he has a good mentality. I think £18m is a good price for this player.

“The mentality is world-class from Kabak. He is not in his best performance now but I think he could be a good player for Klopp and Liverpool for the future.”

It was arguably Kabak’s strongest performance in a Liverpool shirt on Wednesday evening, as he helped the Reds secure a much-needed clean sheet against RB Leipzig.

The Turkey international, alongside Nat Phillips, looked very assured in the heart of Liverpool’s defence and played out from the back with plenty of confidence and composure.
