Southbridge Roseview COVID-19 toll grows to 13 –

THUNDER BAY – Another resident of the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home in Thunder Bay has died, marking the home’s 13th death from the virus.

Southbridge Care Homes, which owns the home, announced the death with an update on its website Sunday morning. It’s the fifth death from COVID-19 announced in the past week.

There were 27 active cases at the home as of Sunday, a number that has continued to fall, from 48 on Dec. 13, and from 71 on Dec. 4.

That total included 13 active cases among residents and 14 among staff, the company reported Sunday.

The outbreak at the home was first declared on Nov. 18, after a single staff member tested positive.

The union representing a number of staff at Southbridge Roseview has recently criticized the home’s handling of the outbreak.

The Roseview outbreak continues to account for most of the Thunder Bay District’s COVID-19 deaths, which now stand at 15.

Outbreaks at two other local long-term care homes, Southbridge Pinewood and Pioneer Ridge, have been declared in recent days.

Southbridge announced a second staff member had tested positive at Pinewood Sunday.
