Matt Doherty’s Wolverhampton Wanderers exit appears to be edging closer, with reports in the national press claiming he has completed a £15m move to Tottenham.
News of Spurs’ interest only emerged earlier this week, with our sister title football.london revealing Jose Mourinho felt Doherty ‘ticked all of the boxes’ to replace Serge Aurier.
And since then, the deal has moved quickly with talkSPORT claiming that a £15m transfer between the two clubs was complete.
Neither team have made any official announcement, with journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming a few details are still to be agreed.
If a move is confirmed, it will end Doherty’s 10-year association with Wolves, a decade which has seen him win two promotions and amass more than 300 appearances.
On social media, the Republic of Ireland international revealed he will be flying back to the UK from Sardinia ahead of potentially wrapping up the deal.
Doherty’s imminent departure looks set to hasten Nuno Espirito Santo’s full-back search, with Ruben Vinagre and Oskar Burr the only senior wing-backs at his disposal.
Wolves remain locked in talks with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with Arsenal rejecting an opening offer believed to be in the region of £15m.
Elsewhere, Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam and Valenica right-back Thierry Correia have both been linked, as Wolves look to land their first signing of the summer.
