The confirmed Man Utd squad members ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final fixture against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Victor Lindelof is back in the provisional Manchester United squad ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final fixture against Man City on Wednesday night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are just one win away from a Wembley showpiece final against Tottenham Hotspur as they prepare for the single-legged semi-final at Old Trafford.
Uruguayan forward Cavani will misses the game through suspension after he admitted an FA charge for his social media post after scoring against Southampton, while defender Jones remains sidelined through injury.
Lindelof trained with the rest of his United teammates on Tuesday morning and is in line for a return to the match day squad after he was spotted by MEN photographers arriving at the team hotel ahead of the game.
The Swede hasn’t featured since he was forced off due to his chronic back injury during the Boxing Day draw with Leicester.
“We’re disappointed not having Edinson involved, he’s probably the only one,” Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference. “And Phil Jones, who’s been very out for a long time, they’re the only two not available for selection, which is a good position to be in.”
“Victor has been training, he’s been with us,” later told club media. “Edinson is suspended. Apart from that we have a very strong squad to choose from.”
United are expected to name a strong team for the crucial semi-final encounter with goalkeeper Dean Henderson expected to come in and replace first-choice David de Gea in goal.
Henderson, 23, has been an ever present in the Carabao Cup this season and is yet to concede a goal in any of the three previous rounds.
Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek also started in all three wins over Everton, Brighton and Luton but is not expected to start the derby encounter.
The 23-year-old has only started twice in the Premier League but Solskjaer believes recent examples suggest he will come good at the club in the future.
“Donny has played well when he has had the chance,” Solskjaer said. “I think we are too quick sometimes to jump on, ‘oh he’s not playing, it’s a failure’, but you know we can see now.
“For example, with Victor [Lindelof] and Fred, as examples, that it takes a little bit of time and now they are massively important players in our squad, in our team, which will be the same with Donny.”
Lee Grant, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Brandon Williams, Jesse Lingard, Facundo Pellistri and Odion Ighalo were not spotted arriving at the team hotel on Wednesday afternoon.
