PSG chief makes Edinson Cavani admission after United transfer

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has admitted it might have been a mistake to allow Edinson Cavani to join Manchester United on a free transfer.

Cavani, 33, joined United on deadline day of the summer transfer window after failing to agree a new contract with the French champions.

The Uruguayan spent seven years in the French capital, winning six Ligue 1 titles on his way to becoming the club’s top goalscorer.

Cavani wasn’t the only star to depart for nothing as club legend Thiago Silva also called time on his spell in France, joining United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea on a free.

Carragher has some harsh words for Pogba

Jamie Carragher has insisted Manchester United should cash in on Paul Pogba and believes that he can’t play in the same midfield as Bruno Fernandes.

The Frenchman has been out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice Premier League XI since last month’s 6-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Instead, Scott McTominay and Fred have been the preferred pairing alongside Fernandes.

Pogba’s current contract expires in 2022 and he has previously claimed it would be his “dream” to play for Real Madrid.

Luke Shaw injury update

Manchester United are set to be without Luke Shaw for a month after scans revealed the extent of the hamstring injury he picked up in the win at Everton.

The left-back set up Bruno Fernandes for United’s equaliser at Goodison Park but limped out of proceedings midway through the second half and will now be sidelined until December.

Shaw is expected to miss Premier League games against West Brom, Southampton and West Ham, as well as Champions League clashes with Istanbul Basaksehir, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig while he recovers from the setback.

De Boer gives verdict on Van de Beek

Netherlands manager Frank de Boer is not concerned by Donny van de Beek’s lack of minutes at Manchester United.

He is quoted by Voetbal International saying:

“Of course I try to give him as much confidence as possible, I also showed that by letting him play against Italy. He did a pretty nice job. He is also doing well at Manchester United, but they have a fantastic midfield.

“That’s difficult too, but Donny will still get to play enough. Of course he wants more, but you also have to get used to a different competition. He will experience that too, let’s hope he will eventually get game minutes. In any case, he is equipped, so we can use him well.”

Greenwood told to visit a sports psychologist

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has urged Mason Greenwood to visit a sports psychologist amid reports over the striker’s temperament at Old Trafford.

Townsend told talkSPORT:

“Of course it starts with the player himself, but I can empathise with Mason Greenwood having been through that “build you up to knock you down” media scrutiny.

“It’s tough and he needs players around him like Harry Maguire, experienced players who have been through it, to put their arm around him. He needs his manager to stay by his side, which I know Ole probably will.

“He needs family and good friends around him, and the other thing is he needs to see a sports psychologist. Somebody who has spoken to other players in his position and who knows what’s going on from the outside to help him through it.

“I have no doubt Mason Greenwood is a very young player who seems to have his head screwed on. Yes, he’s made mistakes, but, yes, he is young and learning. If he gets over this little blip he’s on then he will get to the other side a better player.”

Madrid ‘plan’ Pogba swoop

Real Madrid have reportedly been alerted to the availability of Paul Pogba.

Reports this week have suggested United will allow Pogba to leave for a cut-price in the summer and AS believe their decision has alerted Madrid who are prepared to shelve plans to sign Eduardo Camavinga in order to lure Pogba to the Bernabeu.

Pogba admitted during the previous international break that it would be a dream to play for Madrid.
