Van Persie’s shock prediction
Manchester United hero Robin van Persie wants Wolverhampton Wanderers to win the Europa League.
Van Persie spent three years at Old Trafford and was key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s final Premier League title win before retirement in 2013.
The Dutchman remains revered at Old Trafford – but he is backing Wolves in the Europa League.
Wolves face Sevilla in a quarter-final in Duisburg this evening and the winner will meet either United or Copenhagen in the semi-finals.
During an interview with BT Sport, van Persie was asked who he thinks will win the competition outright and his response has delighted Wolves fans.
“I would love Wolves to win it,” he said. “It would be unbelievable.”
How will Wolves line up vs Sevilla?
A Europa League quarter-final against five-time winners Sevilla is the stuff of dreams for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
But Nuno Espirito Santo and his immensely talented squad – albeit slightly weakened after a gruelling victory over Olympiakos on Thursday – won’t be making up the numbers in Duisburg.
Jonny Castro Otto’s season-ending injury and Daniel Podence’s suspension has given Nuno two problems he could have done without.
But how will he set his team up to face a Sevilla side who are unbeaten in 18 matches extending back to February 9?
Nuno uses two formations and although 3-4-3 has been his preferred system throughout this season, there’s a good chance he may favour 3-5-2 tonight.

Wolves ‘enter Jesus Corona battle’
Wolves reportedly make up a three-way battle for Porto winger Jesus Corona – and it’s been claimed that any interested clubs can sign the player for €30m.
Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to bring Corona to Wolves in the next transfer window, according to reports in Portugal.
Nuno and Wolves will be looking to add to their existing squad, as well as retain their highly-rated assets across the pitch, in this summer window which runs parallel with their Europa League knock-out campaign.
Inter Milan and Sevilla – both still in the Europa League and the latter Wolves’ next opponents – are also linked with Corona, who can operate at full-back.
Record claim that many sides are waiting to see what their situation is, regarding if they’ll be playing Champions League or Europa League football next season, before conducting any significant business.
The wide-man has netted four goals and racked up a remarkable 18 assists for the Portuguese giants this season, and that’s drawn attention from across the continent.
Napoli star Faouzi Ghoulam could be headed to Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say super agent Jorge Mendes is working on a deal to find Ghoulam regular football, with the Algerian falling out of favour recently.
Ghoulam, a left-back, started just three times in the league this season – although he did struggle with injury – and he now looks set to leave Napoli after six years.
Wolves are looking into strengthening at wing-back after it was recently revealed Jonny Castro Otto faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
