Man City transfer news RECAP Foden and Koulibaly latest as Messi tells Barca he wants to leave – Manchester Evening News

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has admitted that the lack of recognition for Blues players has “worried” him.

And he says that Kevin De Bruyne’s announcement as the Premier League’s Player of the Year came as a relief after ten years of Blues stars being ignored for the major individual honours.

De Bruyne was named as the best player by the league last weekend, just hours after City crashed out of the Champions League, and it the award comes after years of City players being snubbed for accolades.

When asked about De Bruyne’s award, the chairman replied: “I was very pleased. Very pleased because it is so well deserved.

“It was a combination of being pleased but also a bit relieved. I was worried because we have seen it before with City players, them being overlooked for this very important award and I was worried that Kevin would be overlooked this year, because in my view it was unquestionable.”
