Liverpool transfer gossip: Jurgen Klopp and FSG at odds over new striker – Mirror Online

Liverpool’s fantastic season has come to an end and with it a trio of trophies that confirm the club as English, European and world champions.

Jurgen Klopp won’t be resting, however, as he looks to cement the Reds as the best team in England again next season. To do that he will look to the transfer market and some subtle changes to his squad.

The German opted not to bring in any major new faces 12 months ago but is unlikely to be as quiet again this time round.

With that in mind here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Origi interesting Aston Villa

Dean Smith is keen to bolster his attack with the signing of Divock Origi, according to The Sun.

Origi, 25, joined the Reds from French side Lille in 2014 and managed 42 appearances for the club last season, registering six goals and four assists.

Despite producing some important goals for Liverpool, his season largely involved coming off the bench as he struggled to disrupt the front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

It’s believed the striker is keen to earn regular playing time to keep himself in the mind of Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, and now Villa could offer him that opportunity.

Liverpool told to up offer for defender

Real Betis have informed Liverpool they must increase their offer for defender Aissa Mandi by £1.8million, according to HITC.

Mandi, 28, has a €30million release clause with Real Betis, but as he is in the final year of his contract with the club, they are willing to accept a significantly reduced fee.

The report states Liverpool have offered £9million for the Algerian defender, with Betis ready to strike a deal if the Reds add on a further £1.8million.

Liverpool are believed to be in the market for a central defender after selling Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg. Mandi is a versatile option and can play anywhere across the backline.

Klopp keen on Premier League striker?

Jurgen Klopp and FSG are reportedly at odds over the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez.

Jimenez joined Wolves last summer from Benfica following a successful loan spell, and his performances have caught the eye of the Reds.

Klopp is eager to bolster his attacking options as the Reds prepare to defend their Premier League crown, but according to Duncan Castles that is proving difficult.

Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast, Castles explained that Liverpool’s manager and the owners are not in agreement about a deal for the Mexican international.

“I can see why there would be interest from Liverpool and the player because of the way he has performed for Wolves,” he said.

“There is a lot of competition there, he is first-choice for Juventus if they manage to dump Gonzalo Higuain in the current market pace and raise sufficient revenue from transfers.

“One of the players they are trying to sell and sell to England is Douglas Costa.

“To be able to get Jimenez from Wolves, and they want to put him in an attack alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala which would be entertaining to watch for sure, and frightening to defend against.

“This will not be a cheap deal, Wolves paid a lot of money for Raul Jimenez to get him from Benfica. He is paid a very good salary there.

“They know his value, they’re a tough club to buy players from and I’m not sure whether Fenway Sports Group are prepared to back Klopp in the manner which would be required financially to get Jimenez from Wolves.

“While there is an interest, an understandable interest, it will be an interesting test of how much support FSG are prepared to give Klopp going into this next season to defend that Premier League title.”
