He is out of jail…I dont think he feels guilt over my grandsons death – Manchester Evening News

Magdalena Lesicka’s mother says it is not fair that Peter Chilvers has gone free after his abuse led her daughter to kill their toddler son.

Airline captain Chilvers, 33, was jailed for 18 months for controlling and coercive behaviour and assault against his fiancée, Magdalena, 32.

His cruelty is said to have triggered the sudden breakdown of mental health she was suffering from when she attacked their 23-month-old son James at their Wythenshawe home in August 2017.

Lesicka is currently serving 15 years for James’ manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Chilvers has been released from prison after serving just a third of his sentence and is now out on licence.

Exclusive pictures from The Mirror show Chilvers, 34, with one of the two children he now has with stewardess Lisa Spencer.

Lesicka’s mother, Iwona, told the Mirror that Chilvers should have stayed in jail because he has never shown remorse for the controlling behaviour that led to 23-month-old’s death.

Iwona, 61, has said she is horrified by the images.

She said: “It is very difficult for me. I was in court and testified and it did not help much.

“I don’t think it’s fair that he is going free. My daughter is still serving her sentence and he is being released.”

She added: “And now he has two children?

“We loved that child more than life, and so did my daughter. I don’t think he feels any guilt.”

From her home in Wronki, near the Polish city of Poznan, Iwona spoke of the couple’s toxic relationship to The Mirror.

She said: “My daughter asked him to leave and he continued to intimidate her and threatened to take the child.

“She tried to kill herself. We are constantly under stress about whether she will get through it all.

“He was only sentenced to a year and a half because he had money for attorneys.”

In the days before the killing, while Chilvers was working, Lesicka made internet searches about ‘Taser UK law’, ‘self defence weapons UK’ and ‘killing in self defence’ before she later contacted domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid, the Mirror reports.

She also phoned Greater Manchester Police and two officers were sent to her home.

She showed them bruises to her arms and thigh.

She was informed the next day that Chilvers would be arrested after he flew back to the UK and a scared Lesicka said she did not want that to happen.

However, she was told it was police policy to take positive action over such allegations.

That night she stabbed James to death and tried to end her own life.

Iwona said: “I knew it was going bad. I found out a year and a half before the tragedy and I wanted him to go away.

“But she was addicted to him.

“And yet she would have managed without him. I would’ve helped. He hated me because he knew I was against him.”

Lesicka was jailed for 15 years in July 2018 – meaning her earliest release date is 2026 when she will have served half her sentence.
