New coronavirus cases have dropped 23 per cent in a week, according to one of the UK studies tracking the outbreak, with the R value now 0.9.
There are now 53,528 daily new symptomatic cases of Covid-19 in the UK on average, according to researchers at the Zoe Covid symptom study app infection survey. This is down from 69,958 a week ago.
The R value for the UK, a measure of how many people each infected person will pass the virus on to, is now below one, meaning that the outbreak is shrinking nationally, researchers said.
