SpaceX is now offering anyone the ability to pre-order Starlink internet on a first-come, first serve basis, reports Tesla North.

By visiting Starlink.com and entering in your email address and address, the service now takes you to a pre-order page to plunk down a $129 CAD deposit.

“Starlink is available to a limited number of users per coverage area at this time. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis,” reads the website.

After entering in our own address to test, Starlink says they are “targeting coverage in your area in mid to late 2021. Availability is limited. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. You will receive a notification once your Starlink is ready to ship.”

Starlink hardware (satellite dish and router) costs $649 CAD, then there is a monthly $129 CAD service fee. Shipping and handling will cost $65 CAD extra.

If you choose to place a pre-order, Starlink says the deposit is “fully refundable,” and adds, “depending on location, some orders may take 6 months or more to fulfill. Placing a deposit does not guarantee service.”

Starlink’s low-earth orbit satellite internet is currently available in the U.S., Canada and the UK. Canadians started getting beta invites back in November. The first users of Starlink in Canada were those in the Pikangikum First Nation, which saw its speeds go from dial-up to 130 Mbps download.

SpaceX is targeting rural and hard to reach areas first with its Starlink satellite internet service. Starlink Satellites orbit 550 km above Earth, allowing for low latency to support video conferencing, 4K streaming and online gaming. Traditional satellite internet hovers about 35,000 km above Earth, making for slow speeds that, according to users, are barely usable.
