Arsenal vs Burnley LIVE: Latest score, goals and updates from Premier League fixture tonight – The Independent

Mikel Arteta’s side have endured a largely miserable start to the campaign, taking just 13 points from their opening 11 games, and currently languish in 15th place. A clinical defeat by Tottenham in the north London derby epitomised Arteta’s greatest problems, with Arsenal struggling to create anything of note in attack despite boasting the majority of possession as captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal drought continues.

Meanwhile, Burnley are staring down the barrel of a relegation battle, having won just one of their opening 10 games. Sean Dyche’s side are desperately short on firepower, scoring just five goals so far this season, and should, at least in theory, represent the perfect opponents for Arsenal to open up against and rediscover their attacking verve. Follow all the live action below:

Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope is overjoyed with his team’s performance but realises there is still a long way to go. He said:

Over the last few years we have come close when we have come here to beat them but this felt like the right night and we picked out opportunities. We have put together some good opportunities now.

“There were a couple that were close to me and I had covered. It was nice to get on the end of a few saves and the clean sheet is massive for us.

“Sometimes when a team goes down to 10 men it is difficult because the expectation changes. It was probably the changing moment of the game with the momentum and after that I think we calmed it down.

“No-one wants to look at the TV and see yourself below the dotted line so it is nice but there is a long way to go.”

That victory is Burnley’s first ever Premier League win against Arsenal. It’s come at the right time for Sean Dyche’s men who overtake Fulham to move out of the relegation zone.

Arsenal 0 – 1 Burnley

90+5 mins: Full time. Another awful result for Arsenal who haven’t won in the Premier League since the beginning of November. Huge result for Sean Dyche’s Burnley who get their second win of the season and move out of the relegation zone.

Arsenal 0 – 1 Burnley

90+3 mins: Could this be the chance? Arsenal win a free kick that Saka flicks into the box. Pope comes out and punches the ball away cleaning out Tarkowski in the process but the Burnley keeper was taking no chances.

Arsenal 0 – 1 Burnley

90 mins: Five minutes to be added on. We did spend a lot of time looking at Xhaka and Elneny on VAR thinking they were Anthony Joshua.

Arsenal 0 – 1 Burnley

87 mins: Bukayo Saka is going to be the one to rescue this for Arsenal. He receives the ball out wide and cuts inside, shifts the ball onto his left foot and drills one at goal but Tarkowski sticks his head in the way and knocks it over the bar.
