Another COVID-19 death, three new outbreaks reported –

Sarnia-Lambton’s COVID-19 death toll increased by one to 42 Sunday.

Details about the latest death weren’t immediately available.

In its daily update Lambton Public Health reported 11 new confirmed cases over the past 24 hours for a total of 1,872. The number of resolved cases increased by six to 1,780, raising the active case count by four to 50.

The health unit said Sunday it’s investigating multiple outbreaks at one unnamed workplace, one institutional workplace, and at one long-term care home. The outbreaks were declared Saturday after laboratory-confirmed positive test results were received for three staff at the workplace, one inmate at Sarnia Jail, and one staff member in the long-term care division of Vision Nursing & Rest Home.

“The individuals who tested positive have been notified of their results,” said Kevin Churchill, Manager of Family Health for Lambton Public Health. “LPH is continuing to conduct case and contact management as part of the investigation.”

Testing of long-term care residents is also underway and staff testing is ongoing.

The total number of institutional and workplace outbreaks is now at nine.

Bluewater Health reported Sunday that there are five COVID patients in hospital, down one. The hospital website still showed 27 COVID-related patient deaths.
